Summary

The traditional library is increasingly being transformed into an information centre. In scientific libraries, including academic ones, the offer becomes more varied. The article presents traditional and electronic collections as well as the service package of the Main Library of Akademia Świętokrzyska in Kielce. The discussion is confronted with findings of an inquiry made among readers in two periods (the academic year 2003/2004 and the control sample in 2006). Part I presents the main premises and the method of the undertaken investigation. Separate presentations are devoted to the addressees of the library - information centre, the actual readers (separate groups) and questionnaire respondents. From among eleven questions, four are discussed. They concern the library and conditions of accessibility of library collections as well as the auxiliary workshop (catalogues). The text is completed by tabular lists and graphs.
