he present study concerns the publishing activity of the Axel Springer Polska consortium that appeared on the Polish press market in 1994 as the last one of the so-called "great German four" including "Burda - Poland," "H. Bauer," "Gruner + Jahr." Witold Podkatiski was the president of the company in the years 1994-2003.
Offering a wide and diverse range of periodicals, the Axel Springer Polska consortium made efforts to attract the interest and meet the expectations of readers. For nine years of publishing activity on the Polish press market the consortium has published twenty-eight titles addressed to various target groups. During the first four years of the consortium's activity women's magazines were dominant. In 1998 the publishing house made its debut in the computer magazines section. The consortium also published teenage, business, motoring, social science and information magazines.
The Axel Springer Polska has introduced to the Polish press-publishing market twelve monthlies, three weeklies, three biweekly magazines, two bimonthly publications, one daily, one quarterly, six non-periodicals and numerous special publications.
