This report is based mainly on reviews contained in „Nowe Książki". An analysis of these reviews shows that reviewers indicated the roles which literature for children and youth was to play and contributed to the discussion of the directions of improving the education system in the 1970s. In this way, they supported (indirectly) the policy of the Polish United Workers' Party in the sphere of education. The article contains references to official documents reflecting the principles of this policy.
