Summary

This article deals with the formation of the library network in Jędrzejów District in the first years after the end of World War II (1945-1950). The fates of private book collections belonging to the landed gentry and library losses during the Nazi occupation are reported. As results from the source materials, the first libraries were established in Jędrzejów District already in 1945; however, the basic library network was formed in the years 1946-1948. Apart from public and school libraries also community, parish and private libraries became operative. The article presents the conditions of the operation of these institutions and their role in cultural life of the district under consideration.
