Summary

The article deals with the history and general characterisation of the programme of the Polish nationwide private television TVN. The author also considers the most important economic problems of this broadcaster, presents the ownership structure of the channel and the ITI holding, to which TVN belongs. TVN has gained a high position not only thanks to innovatory programmes, but also to the skilful adjustment to spectators' expectations. Another important factor which facilitated the expansion of this broadcaster was an unusually skillful investment activity. New media channels have been created (portal Onet.pl). New technologies have been purchased (Onet.pl, digital platform N), and finally, the commercial media activity has been successfully developed.
