Summary

The article presents one of the most important scientic and literary periodicals in the 19th century - Biblioteka Warszawska [Warsaw Library] (1841-1914). Presenting in brief the history of the periodical, profiles of its editors and authors as well as the structure of the periodical and its contents are shown. In the main part of the article, basing on the source material, the scientific contents of the magazine is analysed. Ten groups (types) of information are distinguished: original treatises, information about universities and learned societies; news about national and foreign scientific research (reports from conferences and congresses), competitions, translations of foreign works, polemics and reviews, information about new books and editions of sources, reviews of the national and foreign press, information about exhibitions and inventions; obituaries. The article contains a rich exemplary material.
