Summary

The article presents the state of school libraries in the Kielce Province in the first post-war decade. The German invader destroyed about 90% of school libraries. After 1945 the remaining libraries were integrated in the process of restoration and development. The cultural policy, realised in the years 1944-1949 by the state authorities, assured the organisational, legal, financial and personnel base and housing. However, the growing political indoctrination in the sphere of librarianship in the 1950s was manifested by such negative developments as the appropriation of chief librarian authorities by the contemporary political apparatus, ideological selections of libraries or the inclusion of sociopolitical ceremonies to the canon of library events.
