Summary

Rural readers in the interwar period used municipal, social, school, parish and privateH braries. In the case of organisation-owned libraries, books, and particularly, periodicals, wM filled the function of propagating the ideology of a given organisation and its direction oftfl activity. They shaped attitudes of young people in the face of the surrounding reality andmaH opinions about the social and political situation in Poland and in the world. From amongptj vate libraries operating in the province under consideration mention should be made oftki libraries of Tomasz Nocznicki and Antoni Kuzniarski. A limited number of books, lack of m publications, incomplete and worn out volumes caused readers in general to read all boob found in the library, regardless of the subject matter and own interests. However, prose fiction and books of Polish classical authors enjoyed the greatest popularity.
