Czarnoksiężnik z krainy Oz (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) Lymana Franka Bauma.

Summary

One of the most famous works of American literature for children, the wonderful wizard of Oz by Lyman Frank Baum, was published at the end of the XIX century. The first polish language edition of the tale about the land of Oz did not come out until 1962, that was more than half a century after the first edition in the USA. The original title "The wonderful wizard of Oz" was changed by the translator to "The wonderful wizard of the town of emeralds", which in an uncompounded manner made reference to the soviet adaptation of Alexander Wołkow in 1939. Poland has already had more than 30 editions of L.F. Bauma's books on the land of Oz as well as a few adaptations meant for younger children. Only five out of the fourteen parts have been translated into polish so far. The translation work was undertak-en by four interpreters. The first and most popular translation was accomplished by Stefanie Wortman.
The polish language editions of L.F. Bauman's fairy tales were illustrated altogether by 10 different artists. The most often published were the graphical editions by Zbigniew Rychlicki. There were relatively several sound editions based on the wonderful wizard of Oz story. The works of L.F. Baum were held in high esteem by theatrical stage animators while some of them were also adapted for the screen. However, no books referring to the creativity of L.F. Baum or about him himself have appeared on the polish publishing market. The extraordinarily popular in several countries, especially in the USA, works of L.F. Baum got to Poland with a considerable lateness and have not had any spectacular success on our book market.
