Summary

During the times of PRL (Polish People's Republic) most of journalists functioned under a significant pressure. Various instruments, such as: ideological, political and in extreme cases provocations by the police were used. The political milestones that occurred during the years 1945-1989 resulted each time in an increased citizen activity and involvement among journalists, and then softening of censorship and finally in increasing citizens' freedom. There were several "thaw" periods and then repressions followed. Polish journalists were forced to make unequivocal political choices. The "rebellious" circle of journalists doubled during each decade PRL existed: the rebellious journalists amounted usually to 10 percent of this professional group.
