Summary

The article is based on a quantitative analysis of the content of the "Gazeta Kielecka" in the period of 1918-1939. It is an attempt to show the role of reportage in the Polish newspapers during the period of the two decades between the world wars. Reportage appeared in the Kielce newspapers mostly in the 1930s. This period was extremely difficult for the "Gazeta Kielecka" due to the ownership changes, which resulted in the loss of the newspapers independence. This situation had an influence on all published materials. Authors, who cooperated with the newspaper, came mainly from other cities. Reprints that appeared in the paper often lacked the source of information. Yet this was the reason that the reader could enjoy the same quality reportages as those printed in the main national papers available all over Poland, including reportages written by the master of this form - Melchior Wańkowicz. The majority of reportages dealt with foreign travels to Denmark, Russia, Germany, Brazil and Palestine. There was a description of a trip by sea and by train. There was a story about life behind the Holy Cross prison walls, and a reportage about a cross-country trip on foot following the tracks of Żeromski and his ancestors. It is hard, however, to find anything new or original in these reportages which could be a contribution to the development of the reportage as a genre.
