Summary

This short report from a research stay in the German-Polish Institute in Darmstadt in 1994 concerns the collections of the library, mostly Polish publications. The author examined half of the collections using the library catalogues and a computer in the Institute. A great number of printed matter relaed to the history of literature and Polish publications should be appreciated if we take into consideration the geographical distance of the German-Polish Institute in Darmstadt and limited funds. In 1995 the Institute celebrates the 15th anniversary of its activity, and its long-time Director, Karl Dedecius, is famous in Europe and Poland for his outstanding translations of the classics of Polish literature and other excellent literary and scholarly works. This research will be continued in order to evaluate the whole collections which are often very valuable and interesting for the researcher. Many scholars agree that the German-Polish Institute in Darmstadt has played an important role in the popularisation of Poland.
