Summary

This article is an attempt at presenting the activity of Michal Goldhaar in th< intellectual and economic milieu of Kielce. In the early 1860s, Goldhaar ran ; small bookshop in Kielce which became the foundation of his later wealth. Thi present author finds it unusual that a provincial bookseller - Israelite - clearh stimulated the development of local Polish culture.
