Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie istotnej roli, jaką odgrywa prasa i dziennikarstwo śledcze w państwach demokratycznych. Wybór afery podsłuchowej (taśmowej) i afery reprywatyzacyjnej był motywowany przede wszystkim szczególnym zainteresowaniem mediów drukowanych, realizujących w ten sposób funkcję informacyjną i kontrolną (ze względu na tematykę dociekań dziennikarskich). Badane afery miały umożliwić poparcie tezy o szczególnym oddziaływaniu prasy na system demokratyczny oraz potrzebę jej istnienia w systemie medialnym. Ponadto weryfkacji poddano kwestię współzależności prasy i dziennikarstwa śledczego. Zastosowano następujące metody badawcze: analiza zawartości wybranych artykułów, case study i analiza porównawcza.
The aim of the article is to present the signifcant role of press and investigative journalism in democratic countries. The choice of "afera podsłuchowa (taśmowa)" (spying scandal, tape scandal) and "afera reprywatyzacyjna" (privatization scandal) was mostly motivated by the particular interest exhibited by the print press but also by conducting in that way the informative and control functions with regard to the subject of journalist investigating. Scandals, which were chosen for the analysis, were used in order to help the verifcation of the thesis about the signifcant infuence of the press on the democratic system and the need of its existence in the media system. The matter of the correlation between press and investigative journalism has also been verifed. The following research methods were used: content analysis of select articles, case study, and the comparative analysis.
