Streszczenie

Autor przeprowadził analizę porównawczą defnicji czasopism opinii i ilustrowanych magazynów społecznych.

Summary

The author has conducted a comparative analysis of defnitions of opinion-shaping press and illustrated social magazines. By referencing books and on the basis of own research, he reached a con-clusion that the term opinion-shaping press is only of historical nature today. Until 1989, this type of press was a specifc form of communication among the intelligentsia and the method of infuencing the public opinion. The political changes created new possibilities for the Polish press market. They resulted not only from the abolition of media censorship but also from a more attractive ofer and the implementation of modern marketing techniques, characteristic of the process of press popularization. Magazines, whose subject was social issues and politics, and which were characterized by a considerable number of il-lustrations, were best able to meet the new challenges.
The author has also concluded that the group of magazines of interest has been dominated by a jour-nalistic content. It is characterized by the refned graphic form; it performs integrative and environment-shaping function, and its existence relies mainly on the profts derived from advertising.
