Summary

The subject of the article depicts two elements of the contents in the socio-cultural and sociopolitical magazines published by the RSW (working class cooperative Publishers) in the 1980s of the 20th centuiy. The choice of the magazines for analysis was delibrate and comprised of titles having the highest circulation and therefore significantly exerting an impact on public opinion.
A statistical analysis survey conducted revealed that between 30% and 50% of the contents of magazines constituted original fragments of literary Works (prose and verses), critical literary texts, and statements clearifying publication policies in the People's Republic of Poland. An import ant suplement to this subject were Texas in which issues relating to current polish histoiy were dealt with.
The author came to the conclusion that against the unequivocal censorship pressure under the reign of the People's Republic of Poland the RSW magazines were incapable of openly taking up the current socio-political and socio-cultural issues. The alternative of these discussions was therefore literature. In view of the creation of an alternative literary life in the '80s of the 20th century, the pages of the RSW magazines had to be filled with popular, erotic; and factual literature. Its transient value causes the magazines under survey to, quite often, publish texts relating to the most current history of Poland. Concurrently, social discourse is held in a historic sequence, and it is the readers' imagination that determines the way these discussions were accessed and interpreted.
